My Most Popular Celebrity Portraits of 2022
I never know what to expect when I cast a furtive eye on my previous year’s work. I decided to have a look through my clients’ perspective, and see what you all liked most, and what you chose to buy for yourselves, or to gift your loved ones at Christmas. It appears there was a theme to my bestsellers, and it was decidedly royalty.
1. Elvis Presley
Let’s hear it for the King – not you, Charles. The King of Everything, the one I was too intimidated to draw for far too many years, but glad I put my big girl pants on, because I loved the portrait in the end, and fortunately, so did many of you.
2. Queen Elizabeth II
Moving on: still not Charles, but his mum in her youthful beauty – I had so many requests to draw the Queen, and while I got a bit of criticism that I made her too sexy, I make no apologies. She was all that.
3. Grace Kelly
Last, but not least, a bit of Monegasque as well as Hollywood royalty, God how I love that face, it’s Grace Kelly of the icy blondes. There’s little chance of ever capturing that sort of otherworldly beauty, but beauty’s what I live for. If I caught a tiny facet of that, I’ll be pleased.
Thank you all for choosing my work, for putting presents under my kids’ tree at Christmas and smiles on their faces – as well as mine. It doesn’t ever escape my notice how hard it is to avoid the siren song of the giant next-day-delivery corporations. Now more than ever, thank you for picking a small independent shop and supporting a living artist. You are my heroes.
